Lifting the pressure on aerosol disposal

aerosolbinWASTE processing organisation Remondis UK has launched “an innovative new solution to the challenge of managing aerosol waste disposal”. The flat-packed, UN-approved containers can be used by organisations across all industries, including pharmaceutical, manufacturing and retail, to collect and transport aerosol cans for recycling.
More than 600 million aerosols are used in the UK each year, representing in the region of 30,000 tonnes of reclaimable tin-plated steel and aluminium.* When disposing of these containers in bulk, it is a requirement to treat them as hazardous waste and ensure they are directed to specialist recycling facilities.
For a single upfront fee, the new Remondis aerosol collection service provides users with a fully compliant, vented and transport-suitable container which is certified for up to ten shipments. Once filled with redundant aerosol cans, users can call Remondis to arrange a convenient collection slot, while additional containers can be delivered flat-packed through the post.
Louise Holt, joint managing director at Remondis UK, comments: “We’ve developed this solution based on extensive consultation with our customers across all sectors, from health and beauty, through to industrial, commercial and local authority sites.
“Aerosol collections can sometimes be challenging, as they often require the cans to be moved through a number of different containers before being packed for shipment to recycling facilities. To overcome this challenge, our UN-approved container looks just at home in an office, local authority civic amenity site or retail backyard, as it does during transportation.
The Remondis UN-approved aerosol container is available to order from Remondis’ UK headquarters in Merseyside. For more information, call 0151 230 8800 or email sales@remondis.co.uk.
