The report identifies opportunities for making better use of industrial waste.

A new Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) report aims to stimulate innovation in the waste sector by highlighting future technology trends and identifying opportunities for growth.

The culmination of a one-year investigation drawing upon insights from 80 stakeholders across the entire waste supply chain, the report investigates the barriers to innovation as well as the opportunities to create value from industrial waste.

The response from industry stakeholders clearly indicated there is huge economic potential as industrial waste can be used to produce high value chemicals, materials and products.

The UK waste sector is valued at over £11bn and is already evolving as industry and society come to understand waste as a resource. However, innovation is required to economically recover valuable materials from waste as well as to keep up with its changing composition.

The report identifies a long list of opportunities that can be exploited by UK companies, with the additional intention of stimulating ideas for new technology and processes that will help the UK continue to benefit as the waste sector evolves.
