WORK has started in Harwich to repair the 13 flood gates that reduce the risk of tidal flooding to more than 1200 properties in the area.
The Environment Agency will be removing the gates a few at a time, taking them away to be refurbished and repainted, with each set of gates being replaced before the next set is taken off-site.
Work will also be carried out on the two larger gates, at Gas House Creek and the Navy Yard entrance, to update the electrical system which operates the gates.
