WASTE management firm SWR hosted Scotland’s environment secretary Richard Lochhead at a recent event in Edinburgh.
The event was also attended by representatives from the business community who were brought up to date with impending changes to Scottish waste regulations. In May last year the Scottish Government passed new laws relating to waste disposal and which are due to come into force in January 2014. The Zero Waste Plan sets out key actions including new targets to tackle the near 20 million tonnes of waste produced in Scotland every year.
SWR’s general manager in Scotland, Stephen Cameron, said: “While waste has not been a boardroom issue before, it is becoming so with soaring costs, environmental pressures from customers and now some very ambitious legislation. Our roundtable event brought together senior figures from large companies throughout Scotland to discuss how waste is becoming a growing issue and in particular to discuss the implications the new regulations will have on business in Scotland.”
