Berlin Electrolysers Conference to focus on safety

The Berlin Electrolyser Conference takes place on 26- 27 November, with this, 7th edition of the event, focusing on safety-oriented design.

While many existing electrolyser technologies are ready for scale-up, there are still numerous critical challenges to overcome to achieve cost reductions and to scale up installation worldwide.

Hydrogen is expected to play an increasingly important role in the decarbonisation of key industrial and transport sectors.

Exhibitors include Birmingham-headquartered IMI, which will showcase its IMI VIVO Electrolyser. The firm’s Andrea Pusceddu, Business Development Director for Hydrogen, will deliver a keynote at 09:30 on 27 November on the critical aspects of safety-oriented design for containerised Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers. As part of his presentation, Andrea will showcase the risk-mitigation features that have been built into IMI’s VIVO PEM electrolyser.

Andrea will also highlight some of the transferable knowledge from IMI’s longstanding work in the oil and gas sector, as well as the breakdown of an explosion shockwave simulation on an O2 separator vessel. Other discussion points will include the use of advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to assess the efficiency of venting fans and to simulate a hydrogen leak in an electrolyser’s container.

IMI VIVO provides a turnkey solution, which includes a complete, packaged system for producing green hydrogen, encompassing both the electrolyser and storage system.

“The Berlin Electrolyser Conference is one of the highlights in our calendar, as it is always a great place to discuss what’s next for our industry,” said Andrea. “We’ll be showcasing a safety focus that was adopted when designing our IMI VIVO Electrolyser, as well as some our learnings when deploying it in live applications.”
