A fast-growing renewables company has forged a partnership with a Merseyside further education college.
Eco Environments, which has its head office in Liverpool, has launched a number of initiatives with Hugh Baird College including opening a dedicated renewable energy training rig for people studying the City & Guilds 2399 solar PV course.
An installer training rig, provided by Eco Environments, has been built at a height of 10 feet to give students a realistic taste of the work of installers.
The company has also taken on two apprentices from the college and plans to create more jobs in the coming months.
The move is part of an education initiative that
has seen it work with schools, academies, colleges and universities to improve understanding of renewable energy.
Mark Buchanan, commercial director, said the alliance is a demonstration of a commitment to create jobs and support training on Merseyside.
“The rig will enable those training for their City & Guilds 2399 to receive practical training in installing and maintaining solar panels on a range of different roof types. They will gain a complete understanding of solar PV design, installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance.”
Beth Nolan, the college’s workforce development manager, added: “Eco Environments has supported Hugh Baird College in developing our Solar Panel courses and workshop facilities. Thanks to their support we now have technically advanced equipment installed, providing students with a realistic working environment.”
