Fuel sites will cement operations

CEMEX UK, the building materials company, is joining forces with a recycling company to develop two plants that will produce Climafuel for its cement plant in Warwickshire.
Climafuel, an alternative fuel produced from domestic, commercial and industrial waste, has been used at the cement plant since 2007. Now SITA UK wants to develop two waste recycling facilities to manufacture the fuel. One will come on stream this year in Birmingham with a second adjacent to the Rugby cement plant following in early 2014.
The developments will provide CEMEX with a more sustainable fuel to burn in its cement kiln, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and diverting waste that cannot be recycled away from landfill. Together the two plants will be able to produce and supply up to 250,000 tonnes of Climafuel to Rugby.
