MORE than 100 Sainsbury’s stores across the South of England have been fitted with roof-mounted solar panels.
The installation was carried out by Renewable Resources (Energy Solutions) Ltd to produce a total of 6.9MW of power for the supermarket chain.
The work became a significant part of Sainsbury’s sustainability drive which aims to reduce carbon emissions, provide a sustainable solution for long-term energy security and protect from future rises in energy costs.
“This project secured Renewable Resources’ position as the largest UK solar PV installer for commercial rooftops in 2011, while also demonstrating our ability to work on a tight schedule,” claimed Paul Gribben, chief executive at Renewable Resources. “The main challenge of this project was to meet strict Feed-In Tariff deadlines.”
The firm’s engineers worked with roofing membrane and solar PV panel suppliers on a scheme that saw typical 50 kW systems installed in less than three days.
