Balkans win for trio

A consortium led by engineer Mott MacDonald has won a contract from the European Commission to help strengthen infrastructure development across the Western Balkans.
The team, which also includes WYG and Atkins, will give technical assistance to projects in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Kosovo.
Since 2009 almost £5 billion in loans and grants have been made across four target sectors of transport, energy, environment and social infrastructure.
Projects that have won funding so far include an upgrade to the power transmission system in Serbia, improving regional roads in Albania and establishing renewable energy generation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
