Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) has received two final tenders for a £90m waste contract.
Covanta and SITA are the bidders for the Merseyside and Halton Waste Partnership Resource and Recovery Waste Contract which calls for the design, build and operation of energy from waste facilities and to provide residual treatment services to deal with around 450,000 tonnes a year of municipal waste over 25 years.
Each bidder is proposing an energy from waste facility to produce energy in the form of electricity and/or heat from household waste.
A team of MRWA officers and advisors will now evaluate the proposals and the authority expects to select a preferred bidder in the autumn.
