Ready for take-off

SIEMENS has produced the first of its new 75-metre long rotor blades, for installation on the second prototype of its 6MW offshore wind turbine to be erected later this year in Denmark’s Østerild test station.
The B75 Quantum Blade is said to demonstrate “tremendous strength” and superior performance at a wide range of wind speeds. And the company claims that if the blade were produced using traditional technology, it would be between 25-50% heavier. “The combination of intelligent design and low weight has a correspondingly positive effect on the power generation costs for wind energy,” it added.
