Start on HQ build

WORK has started on the new London headquarters for the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
The organisation appointed construction firm 8build to the £2.94m contract earlier this year and work began in October. The green-build project, which involves redevelopment of a Victorian building and will include members’ facilities and conference rooms, is scheduled for completion in August 2013.
As well as working areas for staff the HQ will include meeting rooms and exhibition space.
CIWEM appointed 8build after an extensive market testing process and took into account the firm’s previous experience in green-build projects. The scheme will be developed to the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standard of environmental performance.
CIWEM executive director Nick Reeves, said: “We are very pleased that 8build will be CIWEM’s delivery partner harnessing the company’s demonstrable enthusiasm and commitment to high quality, high environmentally performing buildings and sympathetic treatment of historic structures. We look forward to seeing the facilities develop over the coming 44-week construction period.”
