You have to know about DSEAR of course

DSEAR

DSC-Ltd with the noted industry figure of Roy Smith at the helm is proud to announce that their “DSEAR with a Bang” one day training course is now fully Certified, Accredited and Approved by IOSH.
DSEAR or (Dangerous Substance Explosive Atmosphere Regulation 2002)
This very unique course has been specifically developed to help those associated with and responsible for, Health and Safety in the workplace. SHE representatives, shop floor Engineers, Managers and Directors alike, should all fully understand the implications of what can go so seriously wrong, when using, storing or transporting flammable and hazardous chemicals.
Are You Compliant ?
In addition to the basics, such as the Fire Danger triangle, use of flammables in the workplace, methods of correct storage and legal penalties for non-compliance with DSEAR , the course also covers many aspects associated with the regulations that most would never consider when doing their Risk Assessment, simply because they may not have the depth of experience to recognise the severity of the pending danger. The implications of production processes, explosive atmospheres generated by substances not classified as flammable, the associations of Flash Point, Auto Ignition, Vapour Pressure, Vapour Density, Limits of Flammability, Boiling Point and much more are duly covered.
Also still available from DSC-Ltd is our standard 2 hour DSEAR Awareness Lecture, aimed at all employees and trainees working in industry, where handling flammable and hazardous materials is part of their daily routine.

DSEAR is not just about how to store Dangerous Chemicals. And to show the complexity of the subject it clearly states requirements for all of the following:
Regulation 5 & 6 requires employers to assess risks to employees and others whose safety may be affected by the use or presence of dangerous substances at work and sets out how the risk should be eliminated or reduced.
Regulation 7 contains specific requirements to be applied where an explosive atmosphere may be present .
Regulation 8 requires the provision of arrangements to deal with accidents, incidents and emergencies.
Regulation 9 requires the provision of information, training and instruction on dangerous substances.
Regulation 10 requires the identification of pipes and containers where these contain dangerous substances.
Regulation 11 addresses the need to coordinate explosion protection measures where employers share the same workplace.
Regulation 17 sets out the transitional arrangements for workplaces and work equipment where explosive atmospheres may occur.

Don’t get caught out. It is paramount to a serious OFFENCE not to have completed a DSEAR Risk Assessment if you or your company use flammable substances of any description and are then involved in an accident situation.
