TINYTAG data loggers are being used to monitor the rate at which glaciers are melting in the Himalayas, explains manufacturer Gemini Data Loggers.
The rugged and compact units are being employed by The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development to examine the heat conductivity of the layer of snowy ‘debris’ that sits on the surface of this icy terrain.
Two Tinytag Plus temperature loggers, each equipped with two flexible thermistor probes, are located at two sites on the Langtang Glacier north of Kathmandu. They monitor temperatures at the surface of the debris layer and at the ice/debris interface every 20 minutes, and will be retrieved for analysis after 7 months.
