Smart agriculture system wins £500k funding following investor showcase

A soil-less smart agriculture system for staple food production, Airponix, has secured £500k in funding within five months of an investor showcase run by Cleantech Innovate. The announcement adds to the latter’s claimed track record in matching the best cleantech innovations with financial backers.

Charlotte Morton, Chief Executive of We Are Orchard, which organises Cleantech Innovate, commented: “Airponix has an outstanding business proposition which could be genuinely game-changing in the cleantech space.” She added that the firm “can make a huge contribution to the crisis of world hunger” and that it has “an exceptionally low environmental impact.”

Michael Ruggier, CEO and Co-Founder, Airponix Ltd, said: “Our experience at Cleantech Innovate 2017 was most rewarding – we secured £500k of funding within five months. The opportunity to put our business proposition in front of Cleantech’s distinguished judging panel and present to a large audience of investors truly kicked off our business. We are now looking forward to accelerating the growth of Airponix with our new investment partner.”

Cleantech Innovate 2018 is already open to applications from the most promising cleantech businesses seeking funding, partnerships, publicity and support in developing their ideas. 36 business propositions will be handpicked by a panel of expert judges, offered pitch training and an opportunity to present their technologies to an audience of over 350 investors, active funders, corporates, support agencies and the media at the showcase event on 20th March 2018 in Mayfair, London.

The deadline for applications is 10 November. The range of technologies covers the full gamut of the low-carbon economy, including biotechnology, renewable energy, low-carbon transport, waste, and energy efficiency. Global investment in low-carbon technologies is continuing to rise at an unprecedented rate. Cleantech Innovate says this is the event to accelerate the path to commercialisation of these technologies by connecting the most innovative ideas with the right financial partner to create success and a genuine impact on global sustainability.
