Engineering consultancy IDOM has been nominated in the Excellence in Water category of the NCE100 list awards, specifically for their work on the water supply system in Medellin, Northern Colombia, where an entire community had been at risk of being excluded from a fresh drinking water supply.
IDOM developed a solution to tackle the problem of wastewater and minimize water loss, as well as helping to create community-working groups to raise awareness of the need to use drinking water efficiently.
This project is said to have had a positive impact on the lives of almost 12,000 families in the region by supplying them with drinking water from a system which is now in a good working condition and has helped to support the sustainability of the territory in becoming capable of managing its own needs.
Once the installation had been completed, IDOM received feedback from local communities in Medellin who expressed their satisfaction with the new system and indicated that they now enjoy a clean water supply under conditions, which are both safe and healthy.
IDOM is at the forefront of the water industry delivering sustainable solutions ranging from maintenance-free, easy-to-build supply systems to more complex projects introducing cutting-edge technologies for fresh water and wastewater treatment.
The consultancy has also been shortlisted in the NCE awards for their expertise in the Innovation in Project Management and Excellence in Alternative Energy categories.
