Air quality technology firm EarthSense secured 19th place in the UK’s top 100 SME Businesses, beating out thousands of other entrants in a range of sectors in the EB100 top 100 SME list. The company will celebrate its win at the EB100 awards ceremony on 13 March, where it will also hear the results of the EB100 Sustainability of the Year Award.

The EB100 award celebrates business excellence in the UK, ranking enterprises across a range of criteria including innovation, industry contribution and year-on-year growth, and highlighting them in an official league table every year.

The EB100 award is judged on eight core criteria based on entrants’ size, growth, ambition and contributions made to the community. This year’s awards had an independent panel of top judges who scored the full top 100 list. Included in the judging panel are notable persons such as Áine Rogers, Managing Director for Cisco’s SMB for the UKI theatre and Alex von Schirmister, Managing Director at Xero.

EarthSense, based in Leicester, has collaborated on a vast range of air quality monitoring projects including intelligent transport, smart cities, local authorities, construction and more to reduce pollution hotspots, better manage peak times or isolate sources contributing to elevated levels. It has created a range of products to provide bespoke solutions, including its award-winning ambient air quality monitor, the Zephyr®, and a high-resolution air pollution model, MappAir®, which uses advanced modelling techniques to create real-time visualisations of air pollution levels around the world. Its MyAir® application allows users to seamlessly view, analyse and download air quality data on either a web-based, public portal, or mobile application.

Tom Hall, CEO of EarthSense, said: “We are particularly proud to have received such a prestigious award that was open across all market sectors. Our rich academic heritage in environmental monitoring and modelling of air pollution data is a key reason why we’re respected as a leading service provider in our industry.

“Of course, the only reason we can win an award such as this is due to the hard work and dedication of our team, who work tirelessly to provide our customers with the most detailed and actionable environmental information, enabling them to make informed decisions.”
