Liz Jarvis MP recently paid a visit to the headquarters of pump solutions firm Selwood, in Chandler’s Ford, to learn about the company’s activities, sustainability initiatives, and work in the community.
Selwood is a specialist in pump rental and engineered water handling solutions, employing more than 500 staff across a UK-wide branch network.
The MP for Eastleigh was given a tour of the firm’s manufacturing facility, where pumps are designed and built for use in its rental fleet, domestically and internationally. She spoke to Dan Lee, CEO of Selwood’s parent company Workdry.
She commented: “It was a pleasure visiting Selwood, and seeing what Selwood do and how they provide support and employment to the community. The commitment of Selwood and Workdry to spearhead innovative initiatives and sustainable growth is truly commendable.”
Dan said: “It was great to welcome Liz Jarvis MP to Selwood and for her to see first-hand how we provide exceptional solutions and services, with a focus on sustainability and workplace safety and how we strive to contribute to our community here in Chandler’s Ford and at our branches across the UK.”
Selwood has implemented sustainability measures including the use of cleaner burning HVO fuel in its pump engines, the use of electric engines in place of diesel wherever possible, and an investment in electric vehicles. Other initiatives include Sustainability Linked Loans and membership of the Supply Chain Sustainability School.
The company also supports a range of causes and community organisations, including the Southampton-based HoneyPot Children’s Charity. This work is undertaken through fundraising, donations, and time volunteered.
The firm also extols a commitmenmt to encouraging young people into the water industry by actively working with schools and colleges to support its apprenticeship programme.
“Putting its people at the core of the organisation, Selwood has invested in comprehensive training programmes up to NVQ 4 level, Mental Health First Aid and a Health and Safety Initiative,” says the group’s literature.
“Through Workdry, Selwood will deliver a comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan in the next 12 months, setting out a clear road map and key milestones to reduce its impact on climate change and contribute to society.”
