Diaphragm pump endurance milestone claimed

KNF has reported that its NMP 850.1.2 micro diaphragm gas pump has exceeded 100,000 operating hours during a long-term reliability test, demonstrating what the company says is a new benchmark for diaphragm pump durability.

Equivalent to more than 11 years of continuous operation, the test was designed to assess how long the pump could remain functional under defined operating conditions. According to KNF, two sets of five pumps were installed at a dedicated testing facility and operated continuously in a controlled laboratory environment.

To create demanding conditions, the pumps were exposed to an ambient temperature of 40°C, the maximum permitted for the pump type, humidity levels of 40–60%, an overpressure of 0.5 bar, and vibration generated by neighbouring pumps within the test rig.

KNF reports that the pumps continued operating reliably throughout the trial without maintenance or component replacement, even after surpassing the 100,000-hour milestone.

“This achievement is not an isolated result, but a reflection of the high quality and engineering standards we apply to every product,” said Fabian Hofstetter, Head of Product Management at KNF Micro AG.
The company says the results provide valuable information for OEMs seeking long service life and reduced maintenance requirements in critical applications. Target sectors include medical devices, emissions monitoring equipment, analytical and laboratory instrumentation, and gas detection systems, where reliability and continuous operation are essential.

KNF attributes the performance to its reliability-focused development process and extensive product testing regime. In addition to lifetime testing, the company states that all pumps undergo detailed technical inspections during serial production, while each unit is individually tested before delivery.
According to KNF, long-term durability can help customers reduce downtime, lower total cost of ownership and simplify qualification procedures for new equipment.
