• Municipal Waste Water Treatment
The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) has provisional dates for the unit Municipal Waste Water Treatment (MWWT).
This unit analyses the nature of municipal wastewaters and the issues involved in the management of discharges to sewers and controlled waters, including combined storm overflows. It examines the physical, chemical and biological quality of urban and domestic wastewaters, together with the preliminary, primary, secondary and tertiary/advanced treatment technologies and processes that are used to meet discharge standards and also reviews the measures that are used to monitor and control discharges of industrial effluent to sewers. The unit also addresses the relevant UK legislation and regulation covering urban wastewaters and trade effluents as well as looking at alternative low-technology options for low-income and developing countries.
Provisional start dates for MWWT are: w/c 9th September 2013, w/c 2nd December 2013, w/c 18th February 2013, w/c 29th April 2013, w/c 9th September 2013 and w/c 2nd December 2013.
The cost of the unit is £587.50 (+ VAT). It has a learning time equivalent to 24 hours spread over 15 weeks. To register email Tom Owen or call 020 7831 3110.
• 2014 ISA Water/Wastewater and Automatic Controls Symposium
Taking place in Florida, USA, on 5-7 August next year, the WWAC symposium is intended to help professionals in the water and wastewater industries understand how instrumentation, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), and automatic control applications are vital to the treatment and distribution of water; the collection and treatment of wastewater; and the management of stormwater. It features 2 full days of presentations on each day, a tour of a local water/wastewater facility, a general reception, networking events, a poster session, and a supplier showcase.
