The METREX has an LCD display that is easy to read and navigate, from which the user can read gas measurements.

Environmental sampling and gas and water leak detection equipment manufacturer QED Environmental Systems has announced the launch of the next generation popular METREX gas detection device.

The new METREX is ATEX rated and designed for pre-localisation, localisation and classification of natural gas leaks in gas distribution networks.

A robust design and an easy to use interface ensure the new METREX is ideal for first responder technicians who handle suspected gas leaks. Other key applications include bar hole gas measurement testing, purged gas lines, enclosed space monitoring and natural gas distribution network leak detection.

The new METREX is significantly reduced in its size, compared to its predecessors and is also up to 50% lighter in weight. It features ten-hour battery life and an easy to read and navigate LCD display. Gas measurements are displayed on screen to the user and easy to understand. The IP65 certified ingress rating adds to the robustness of the instrument when operating it in adverse weather conditions.

ATEX certified (II 2 G Ex db ib IIB T4 Gb) the new METREX has been classified to be safely operated in designated hazardous locations. Unlike traditional flame ionisation detectors, the unit does not require, for example, heavy fuel calibration gas cylinders to be carried by the operator while doing gas network surveys. The same design and engineering expertise that underpins the Geotech product range is also visible in the proprietary sensing and detection capabilities of the METREX.

It detects and measures gas ranges spanning from 0 – 10 000 PPM (parts per million). A further significant improvement on the previous Metrex models is a feature making it possible to capture and log surveyed data to the ProSoft (using QED mains gas compliance reporting software). Data can be transferred to a PC via Bluetooth or USB.
